Mediacom launched a new 5-Gig internet service, its fastest residential speed tier ever offered.

The rollout comes after the company in December announced a three-year, $1 billion capital investment plan to upgrade and expand its network. It has spent the last several months completing multi-gigabit upgrades across several states.

The 5-gig service is now available to more than 500,000 homes passed throughout dozens of communities in Alabama, California, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, and Minnesota. Mediacom expects to extend 5-Gig availability to more than one million homes by year-end as part of its multi-gig deployment strategy.

"Our new 5-Gig service leverages next-generation DOCSIS technology enhanced by AI to deliver greater reliability, resilience, and performance," Mediacom CTO JR Walden said in a statement.

All Mediacom Gigabit tiers include Wi-Fi 7 powered by eero, the latest generation of Wi-Fi technology.
